Motorola Solutions, which will become a separate company from Motorola Mobility next year, has released two rugged computers for use in health care, manufacturing and retail. This Motorola Solutions division will be enterprise focused instead of consumer focused like the Motorola Mobility division. The two computers are available in dark charcoal(MC55A0) and white and blue(MC55A0-HC) for health care use.
Director of product marketing for Motorola Sheldon Safir said that the models will sell for between $1,695 to $2,395, depending on how they are outfitted.
Safir also stated that while both of the new models are based on the MC55 series from 2009, these new models will be highly upgraded. They run Windows 6.5 and have 1 GB of flash memory, plus 32GB of expansion room. They can be dropped from 6 feet as opposed to four feet on the old model. They are highly moisture and dust resistant, as well. The screen uses color VGA for better viewing. The coolest feature is an auto-focus 3.2 megapixel camera on the health care model for scanning bar codes from patient ID bands and drug labels. Both of the new models measure 5.78 x 3.03 x 1.06 inches and have a weight of 1.1 pounds
